Q: What are the requirements for becoming a member?
A: You have to be at least 20 years of age, and other than that, behave in a mature, respectful manner towards your kinship. There are no requirements regarding level, class or race.
However, there are some things that we'd like you to keep in mind, and it shouldnt be too much to ask for: "Loyalty, some of us have alts in other kins, thats fine, but when you are logged on to your Edain alt, you are Edain! that is, you dont take from the kin to divide and share with alts in other kinships, we are a community with a bond of trust so leeching resources out to other kins is not acceptable and has not happened. Loyalty also means putting your kin first, putting in before you take out." (Threingar)
Q: How do I sign up/apply? Do I contact you in game or do I fill out the application here?
A: You can do it both ways. However, it would be easiest to apply in game (we are frequently broadcasting our recruitment messages in the OOC channel), and then, when you are accepted into the guild (recruit status) head over here ASAP to sign up, fill out the application and add your characters to your account.
Applying here first is another option, yet if we accept your application, we will have to "find you" in game in order to sign you up to the guild.
You will HAVE to register at our site in any case, otherwise you will not be promoted to full member even if you are in the kinship for more than the 2 weeks required to become a member!
Q: How about alts? Can I get them signed up for the kinship too?
A: Yes, you can. Simply contact the kinship leader or any of the officers. it would be very helpful if you'd add a note to your alts profile, saying that it is an alt, in case its inactive for a long time.
Q: Will inactive members be kicked?
A: So far, there really is no need to do so, as at the current kinship rank, there are MANY open slots for members. However, there might be a time when inactive members (4 weeks inactive?) will be removed. If you have an alt thats not being used a lot, add a note to it saying that its your alt.
Q: Is there a Kinship House?
A: There is! Its at the Breeland Homestead, the Melcot neighborhood, 1 High Road.
Q: Are there different ranks?
A: Yes. Upon first signing up to the kinship, you will be a recruit, and remain so for 2 weeks., After two weeks in the kinship, you will be promoted to member status. There also are officers, responsible for different things. Check out the forum for more info
Q: What about my alt? Does it have to be signed up to the kinship for 2 weeks as well before promotion, even if I already have member-status?
A: Nope. Once you have member-status, your alts will be promoted too. It'd be helpful if you'd contact Threingar or one of the officers in order to let them know that your alt should be promoted.
Q: Is there a required amount of time that I have to play each day/week?
A: No! This ain't WOW, you know? Real life is always more important, and there are no requirements regarding how much time you have to be online. Many of us are WOW-veterans and had our fair share of that, so this kinship doesnt require any of that.
What about raiding?
A: A quote by Threingar:
"Rift/Helegrod Raiding, we are training people to raid and already people are flocking to our banner for the succesful leadership that has been brought by our raiding officers. The reason is, a raid lives or wipes on its co-ordination, people must listen and follow instructions, there is no room for heroes or individuals, we are a team. Pug groups fail here, the Edain raid team will not. Just as in questing, communication is paramount for the raid leader to disseminate information to the Raid, this is the other reason we have the vent server and it will become a pre-requisite of any Raid member to have installed vent to come with us. So for the future we are looking to train a raid team to rival the best! we will be well equipped in the best armour, weopons, jewellery that the kin can provide and stacked with potions to ensure our survival, all made in-kin."
And Etten-raiding?
A: Again, a quote:
"Ettens Raiding, I hope that many of you will join me in the Ettens for some PVP, we already have a good PVP officer in mind who will hopefully be organising kin only raids on the creeps in the Ettenmoors! Ideally the raid will be entirely on vent and there will be 24 spaces available for interested players who shall meet at regular pre-advertised times. This will also lead to smaller fellowship sized excursions into the Fror instance, to get the important lumi stones! The vision is that the kin will have a full ettens team, trained by the ettens officer, ranked and kitted out with ettens armour delved from Fror, no longer will the creeps hold sway over freep territory while the Edain roam!"
Q: Will I get help if needed with questing?
A: Most definitely. You will find other kinship members that are at your level, or in your level-range, and you can always quest with them, which usually is more fun than doing it with a PUG.
Also, the higher level players are always willing to help. Please understand though that if they are currently, say, on a raid at the Rift, they will not be able to rush to your side right away.
Quote Threingar: "Questing, with more players joining we will have enough people online that we will rarely have to ask outside the kin for questing assistance, pug groups have their advantages but cohesion and loyalty are rarely among them, a kin team questing together can shake the very mountains of Angmar! We want enthusiastic people, who want to help and know when to give orders as well as when to follow them for the greater good. Ventrilo will be invaluable in these groups for effective communication. It is my vision that when Moria is released we will venture forth in kin fellowships, with enjoyable company of people who can be trusted to maintain the fellowship discipline."
Q: Are there kinship events and such?
A: Yes, and there will be more in the future. There are kin raids, kin team quests, special events (i.e. the unveiling of the kinship house), or for example a new, weekly "Unlock emotes/titles" event. Keep an eye on the MOTD in game, or at this forum, and we also are working on setting up a calendar to post events. Also, Threingar and the officers will inform the kinship by kinship email in game about special events.
Q: What about ingame communication?
A: Other than kinship chat, we have our own Ventrilo-Server, and we recommend to log in, even if just to listen in. More info at forum soon.
More to come soon!
Forum rules
The purpose of this site is to give the kinship a way to communicate outside of the game, schedule and plan events such as raids, discuss future plans and strategies, get to know each other. There also is a subforum for off topic talk. THe main purpose is to have fun, enjoy the game and be a community... a kinship, a bunch of friends who enjoy hanging and playing together.
Even though we didn't have any problems at the old forum, here are some rules to go by:
1. This site is rather safe of spam bots, but if you DO see someone spam, please report him or her to one of the officers/mods
2. "Don't feed the troll"... exchanging opinions and civilized discussions are always great, but don't start a flame war, don't use profanity or resort to insulting people, and if someone else does, ignore or report him, don't jump in with him/her!
3. As a member/recruit, you have access to most features of this site. We trust you to use them in a mature, civilized manner... for example, using the Shoutbox or the PM-system. If you don't, some or all privilges may removed.
4. This ain't a rule, but more of a recommendation. Keep it in mind anyway, please: non-face-to-face-conversations, such as chats, forums or in game talk are prone to misunderstandings, since there are no facial expressions and voice articulation involved.
Sometimes, those misunderstandings can even hurt people, like when someone makes a joke, and the next guy doesn't realize it is a joke and gets offended. So please use smileys or stuff like the good ol' "/sarcasm" or "jk" or whatever to make it clear youre being sarcastic or making a joke or whatever.
This will help communication greatly
5. DON'T USE CAPS LOCK WHEN YOU WRITE A POST. IN CYBERSPACE, THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS, AND I DOUBT YOU COMMUNICATE LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE!
6. A good rule of thumb is to talk to people here like you would face to face, which usually means you avoid being disrespectful, profane or whatever.
7. We WoUlD ApPrEcIaTe If YoU WoUlD AvOiD dOiNg StUfF lIkE ThIs. Not only did it grow old in about 1999, it also makes it harder to read your posts.
8. Please don't link to files or pages that are considered "unsafe". Use common sense, and think about that its your kinship mates youre sending there. So unless you are absolutely sure a file or page you link to is safe, don't! =)
Anyway, I really don't think there will be any problems anyway... there were none at the old forum, and I have only met nice, respectful and mature people in the kinship so far, but I guess it's always a good idea to establish some basic rules!
